The Paddlewheel Hotel and Casino debuted on November 21, 1983, and had a somewhat turbulent history. Located at 305 Convention Center Drive in Las Vegas, it began life as the Royal Inn and Casino in 1970 and was acquired by an investment group, including executives from Horn & Hardart. It was renamed the Paddlewheel and initially featured a child-friendly atmosphere, with arcades and amusement rides, later shifting towards an adult focus with a male revue. In 1990 Horn & Hardart put the Paddlewheel up for sale and closed the venue in October 1991. When it closed, Paddlewheel had 300 slot machines and four table games. The land is now vacant and owned by developer Lorenzo Doumani. In 2019 Doumani announced plans to build a non-gaming high-rise hotel known as Majestic Las Vegas. He has faced delays several times; construction has yet to begin as of 2024.
