Honest John’s, the property’s original business, was a newsstand and barber shop. In 1964, it transitioned into a full-time casino run by Andy Tompkins, who founded Lady Luck in 1968. The casino expanded in 1979, and Tower 1 opened in 1986 with 17 floors. A second tower, Tower 2, was added in 1989 with 24 floors. Isle of Capri Casinos purchased Lady Luck in 2000, followed by Steadfast AMX in June 2002, which converted two floors into timeshares. On May 13, 2005, Henry Brent Co. acquired Lady Luck for $24 million, and renovations were announced for early 2006. After financial issues halted the remodel, CIM Group bought Lady Luck for $100 million in 2007. In October 2011, it was renamed Downtown Grand, and after a $100 million renovation, opened on October 27, 2013.
