Venue Description

The Algiers Hotel and Casino was an Arabian/Persian-themed hotel at 2845 South Las Vegas Boulevard that opened on November 25, 1953, with 110 rooms, and was a sister property to the Thunderbird Hotel and Casino. During its operational years, the Algiers mostly kept its original design, retaining the vintage Las Vegas hotel style. In 1991, it was considered for possible condemnation for nearby street realignment. In 2001, Algiers owner Larry Kifer proposed to swap the property, but dropped the idea in late 2002. The Algiers closed on August 31, 2004, and was subsequently demolished in March 2005. The property is now home to the Fontainebleau Las Vegas resort.
