The Flamingo Capri, a 180-room motel, was built in 1959 on the Las Vegas Strip, near the Flamingo Hotel and Casino. It was owned by George E. Goldberg and Bill Capri and opened in October 1959. Goldberg became the sole owner and operator after Capri departed the company. Ralph Engelstad purchased the motel in 1971 and added a casino in 1972. The motel was later operated as part of the Best Western hotel chain in 1976. In 1977, an expansion project included the 19-story Imperial Palace Tower, increasing the number of rooms from 300 to 650. In 1979, the Flamingo Capri changed its name to Imperial Palace, which remained in place until its closure in 2012. Today, the property is home to The Linq Hotel and Casino.
