Foxy’s Firehouse Casino was a small but memorable gaming venue that operated on the Las Vegas Strip from 1976 to 1988. Located on the northeast corner of Las Vegas Boulevard and Sahara Avenue, it occupied the former site of Foxy’s Deli—a beloved Jewish delicatessen opened in 1955 by Abe “Foxy” Fox. After selling the deli in 1975, the new owners transformed the space into a casino, keeping the “Foxy” name and adding a flashy new identity. Styled with a firehouse theme, the casino featured a distinctive neon sign of a cartoon fox in a fireman’s helmet, which quickly became a roadside icon for passing tourists. Inside, Foxy’s Firehouse Casino offered a modest selection of slot machines—around 100 total—a small pit area with table games, and a casual, welcoming vibe that harkened back to its deli roots. The venue never tried to compete with the megaresorts springing up farther down the Strip; instead, it cultivated a local, unpretentious charm that appealed to Vegas regulars and curious visitors alike. Though small, Foxy’s Firehouse maintained a loyal clientele throughout its 12-year run. It was known for friendly service, fast food, low-limit gaming, and its nostalgic link to the earlier, more personable days of Las Vegas. In an era before the dominance of corporate casinos, it stood as a quirky, independently run establishment that added character to the north end of the Strip. The casino closed in 1988 but for over a decade, Foxy’s Firehouse Casino served as a reminder that Las Vegas once thrived on intimate spaces, neon flair, and colorful personalities. Today the former property of Foxy’s Firehouse Casino is home to a Walgreens.
