Klondike Hotel and Casino was located on the Las Vegas Strip in Paradise, Nevada. It started life as the Kona Kai Motel in 1962 and was bought by Ralph Engelstad in 1969. The property was situated between the Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas sign and McCarran International Airport. In 1976, John Woodrum purchased it and renamed it the Klondike Inn. The inn received a gaming license in 1982, opening a casino soon thereafter, and renamed the Klondike Hotel and Casino, which became very popular among locals. The Klondike was sold in 2005 to Royal Palm Las Vegas. Royal Palms planned to demolish Klondike and replace it with Paramount Las Vegas, a casino and condo hotel resort. In June 2006 the Klondike closed and in March 2008 was demolished. Royal Palm Las Vegas had difficulty securing required financing for the Paramount project, and decided to sell the land, which it did in 2008. In 2014, a Harley-Davidson dealership opened on the former Klondike property and exists to this day. Interesting tidbit: The Klondike was the southernmost hotel on the Strip until it closed; Mandalay Bay is now the southernmost hotel.
