The La Concha Motel, designed by prominent African American architect Paul Williams, opened in 1961. Located on Las Vegas Blvd South in Winchester, Nevada, it is considered one of the best-preserved 1950s examples of Googie architecture and is believed to be named after the Beach of La Concha in Spain. The La Concha’s beautiful Googie-style lobby was spared from demolition and, in 2006, relocated to the Las Vegas Neon Museum, where it now serves as the museum’s entrance and visitor center. The 10 acres of land once occupied by La Concha Motel is now an empty lot owned by The Siegel Group. The Siegel Group plans to redevelop the site, potentially with a hotel/casino.
